Douglas F. Cannon, Ph.D., APR+M, Fellow PRSA

Douglas F. Cannon teaches public relations at Virginia Tech but continues to provide limited counsel to nonprofit organizations. A retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, Cannon knows strategic planning and tactical execution. He bases communication plans on solid research and establishes clear standards for evaluating results. He has more than 30 years of experience in journalism and public relations. He worked in communication ministry within The United Methodist Church from 1984 to 2008. Before that he was a weekly community newspaper publisher in Indiana, daily newspaper reporter in Ohio, university journalism professor in Kentucky and Army public affairs officer. Besides helping various church organizations, he’s done public relations work for the San Antonio (Texas) Sports Foundation; the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio; and Schreiner College in Kerrville, Texas. He has managed information dissemination during natural disasters, lawsuits, military mobilizations and other emergencies. He's certified in crisis communications by the Institute for Crisis Management and accredited in public relations. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America College of Fellows. He was president of the Religion Communicators Council, oldest public relations association in the United States, from 2008 to 2010 and 2012 to 2013. He represented religion communicators on the public relations industry's Universal Accreditation Board from 2001 to 2007. He now serves on the UAB as part of an advisory council for a military public affairs credential: APR+M.

Anne Keever Cannon, MA, APR

An award-winning writer and editor, Anne Keever Cannon has more than 30 years of public relations experience. She has been an Air Force public affairs officer (retired as lieutenant colonel), Army civilian public affairs specialist, weekly newspaper editor, media relations manager for an oil company, community relations manager for a liberal arts college, communication specialist for an insurance company and public relations manager for a nonprofit community festival. In addition, she handled public relations for a nonprofit community theater for more than 10 years. Her monthly theater newsletter won a Best of Texas award from the Texas Public Relations Association in 2001. She is accredited in public relations. In 2014 she received the Tex Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Antonio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
